Hey Everyone! Today’s post is a little different, I’m not playing model. Instead my cousin, Danielle, is. Isn’t she stunning!?!

Mimi G Style Simplicity Pattern 8394 -

My summer fabric choices have been all about Ankara print mostly because my  aunt and sister keep giving it to me and I can’t complain.  So far, I’ve showcased my romper, off-the-shoulder top, and now this skirt, but believe me…there is more to Ankara print makes to come.

When my sister gave me this fabric, I knew I wanted to make the Mimi G’s Simplicity skirt pattern based on the design of the fabric and structure of the skirt. Based on my previous makes with the Ankara, you’ll notice the prints are very versatile. The colors and designs can sometimes denote the country and tribe to which an African belongs. Although this specific print doesn’t tell a story, my sister just bought it for me because she knew I’d like it. 🙃

Pattern Description: Mimi G Style top and skirt sized for Misses 10-18 and Plus sizes 20W-28W. Pattern features crop top with or without shoulder straps and an oversized bow on front bodice. This chic pencil skirt is made with an invisible back zipper and a flattering flounce at hem. Also includes a sew-along!!!

Pattern Sizing: The pattern sizes go from a size 10 to 28W.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, looks just like it

Were the instructions easy to follow? I didn’t read the pattern instructions, I just watched her YouTube video.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I loved that this pattern was very simple and a fast make. I don’t have any complaints with the skirt pattern.

Fabric Used: I used an Ankara print from the Netherlands.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I didn’t make interfacing on the waistband after I saw Mimi not add it in the video.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes, for myself. ☺️ & Yes, I recommend this skirt pattern to beginners.

Conclusion: I love the turn out of the make. No, I didn’t match my front and back pieces because it wasn’t possible if I wanted to make sure the button band matched.

Make-up: Fenty Beauty – Rihanna
